Built in 1975, the Superdome stadium has hosted numerous Super Bowls (the American football championship's final), a Rolling Stones concert, Pope John Paul II, the Republican Convention and in 2005 it served as a "shelter of last resort" for the refugees of Hurricane Katrina.
