Quite an amazing story behind this song. The earthquake that triggered the tsunami happened in nearby Hawaiian waters, and there were barely any warning signs that came early enough to prepare. Amazingly, some of the oldtimers of the village noticed strange tidal activity and hurried the children out of the school and lead them to the caves above the fishing village just minutes before the tsunami made landfall.

Another beautiful piece, SC! I became a fan of Hawaiian music when NPR did a report on the "Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar", truly wonderful music.

Thanks for getting my Sunday off to a good start!

I rememeber standing on the North Shore and watching surfers in 20 ' waves. We walked out into the water while signs were posted, "No Swimming Dangerous Undertow". The undertow was so strong I almost fell, as the water wanted to pull me out off the shore. I had to catch my balance then brace my legs to keep standing. I cannot imagine the power or force of a Tsunami.

Thanks SC, love Hawaiin music...hope to make it back some day..

Needs more car chases and scantily clad young women, but on the whole, the video was good.

Loved that. I could listen to IZ all day. The tsunami of 1868 is part of local folklore. The worst tsunami of my lifetime was the one that happened on April 1, 1946 when I was a little kid. I remember the radios warning of a tsunami heading towards Hawaii but everyone thought it was an April Fool's joke and ignored the warnings. About 160 people were killed including school children at a seaside school. I watched the tsunami hit Honolulu and was awed by the receding waters going so far back into the ocean that it bared the shoreline showing nothing but coral as far as one could see towards the horizon. Does La 'Elima refer to the Hawaiian flower Ilima? It's the flower of the Island of Oahu and we used to pick them as kids to make floral leis.

That was beautiful! I have always enjoyed listening to the native Hawaiians, their music is so different. The paintings depict the story behind the song.

                  Keep them coming!

                  Thanks SC!
