    Nice visuals. My son and I have been to the lake at minute 3. That obelisk is a monument to 'Bonnie' Prince Charlie.

    It's a nice little spot.

    I liked this compilation very much and you/Now have hit an interesting point in British history. The "Rebellion" of 1745 was actually a Scottish invasion of England (the last time it happened) and I believe the "rebels" thrust deep into northern England before being defeated, pursued back to Scotland and cut to pieces.

    Hence the sadness that courses through this beautiful music.

    I'm told that Celtic history/culture is much overlooked in Britain, that the history of Britain is usually taught more as the history of England, far from the same thing.

    Until the early 18th century Scotland was entirely independent from England.

      Yes for the longest time Highland culture was regarded by the English and even the lowland Scots as being "uncivilized". Last year I read a wonderful account written by a historian about why the Gaelic language died out in the "New World's" Scottish settlements.(PEI, and NS Canada) It seems the language and culture didn't just die a natural death but was actively stamped out by the aforementioned groups. Dancing and other cultural celebrations were "banned" by the church, children were punished for speaking Gaelic in school or even in the playground etc.. Even traditions that we often associate with Scotland are more recent Victorian and Lowland Scotland inventions. The Music and dance of the Highlands has been largely ignored.

        Interesting but sad, hmd. So-called "civilization" has caused so much wanton destruction of proud and ancient cultures/traditions, worldwide.

        Here in Japan, the Ainu (aboriginals) have finally been given recognition by the mainstream Japanese. In the 19th century the Tokyo authorities "banned" all their cultural observances, from language to dance to dress, even names. They've been discriminated against, mightily. Suddenly they find themselves "recognized". Better late than never I suppose.

          Wow I didn't known of this cultural group(Ainu).When I think of ancient Japanese religions I think of Shinto; I didn't know there were others. Thanks for the info. I will look into this more.

          Yes, tragic indeed. It seems some things (Imperialism, cultural domination) happen worldwide and are not just confined to the Western world. Albeit British Imperialism probably tops the list.

            I'd agree with you, British Imperialism has to top any list of despoilers of traditional cultures, wherever they were found, if only because these Imperialists spread across the entire globe, to almost everywhere. Australian, Canadian, & New Zealand's problems with their indigenous peoples, to this day, have their origins during the days of British dominance.

            But the Spanish, I think, were far worse in the territories which came under Spain's control, wiping out entire cultures across the Western world.

  The art work fit well with the sounds. Helps to bring out my curiosity of my ancestor's land. Ayrshire or something like that or so I'm told, the eagles come to nest in the rocks when a Baird returns to the homeland. I would like to go there just to see if it is so. Thank-you Spade

  Scotland,the Highland Islands in particular is tops on my list of places to visit. According to family lore the MacPhersons on my mother's side helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape from the Isle of Skye.

  The arrived in PEI not that long afterwards- obviously things didn't go there way.
