    Spade,

Being of Scottish Heritage I enjoy Celtic music. Even more if sung in Gaelic. This is great. You should find "Mo Ghile Mear" by Mary Black. It is pronounced "Mo Geela Mar" and literally means My Hero.

Have you been to Scotland, Nowalive?

It is one of my favorite places.

You might find this book interesting:

"How Scots Invented The Modern World" by Arthur Herman. It's fascinating.

taw - I too have some Irish descent (a smattering). Family names of Keirns and Kennedy. The island has produced some beautiful music.

              Celtic music has many sources.

I was walking down a street at night in north-western spain, in Galicia, and suddenly I heard bagpipes. That area is called Galicia because they are decended from the same Gaelic peoples as Ireland, Scottland, etc.

              Bagpipes give me goosebumps.

Half-Irish, myself. And I've always loved Judy Collins. Mary Black is great, too. Good stuff!

A close and beloved friend of mine is of 'strong' Scottish descent, Cleric (Clark; record keepers and Priests) of the MacPherson Clan, and she has a daughter that does competitive 'Highland Dancing' and Highland dancing for Robert Burns celebrations and assorted other 'Scottish' public functions. To mother and daughter, the Sword Dance, Horn Pipe and Fling, are the "biggies to master" at the moment.

I've heard this song several times in the recent past(If you go to a Highland dance competition then you get to hear the Gaelic folk songs usually performed live). It seems to be a favorite amongst the Gaelic folk singers and the song truly tells a wonderful story.

However, when put to spades deft sequencing of world class paintings, the whole song takes on another dimension of reality/understanding of the Scottish/Gaelic peoples and their hopes for a better day for not only themselves but most importantly their children.

Also there is nothing like hearing "Scotland The Brave" performed by a real top flight "Marching Pipe Band".

                      It is truly inspiring.

                      Spadecaller:

My grandfather and grandmother came over to America from Scotland. Scottish American and proud to be so.

Thanks for the great video. As usual very well done.

I don't know the history of this lullaby but after hearing it and viewing the pictures I'm sure that if my great grandfather was here it would have brought tears to his eyes. He was trained as a carpenter and a blacksmith in Scotland in the 1800's and his dream was to leave the trades and become someone who worked the land and tended animals which he did here in Canada. When one can relate to something through their own family history it indeed touches the heart.

Thanks spadecaller for the lulllaby, pictures, emotions and the goosebumps.

Although a true American melting of blood along with native, I am mostly of Irish descent. I would love to visit Ireland and Scotland one day. I really enjoyed the video. Well done as usual, Spade.

May I, my cool friend, salute your taste of source and logic?

Like many here, my greatfather (I am an old fart) a Scotsman and trapper landed on the shores of what is known now as Georgia, and married a Cherokee. His thought was simply to think like a Cherokee, marry a Cherokee. he was a very wise man. When Andrew Jackson expelled the Cherokee to Oklahoma, my cool Great-grand father fled into Florida where he lived out his life and bore my grand-father, Earnest Junior Hamlin.

He had the first Harley Davidson motorcycle shop in South Florida: Hamlin's Harleys. He protected his beloved wife from the crackers now known as Georgians. Having been born in South Dade County (Opa Locka, FL), I worshipped the ground he tread upon. That song is a tribute to all our forebearers! We learned how to live with our brethren Jackson thought we no longer needed them.
