we love the idea of using recycled industrial surplus as the starting point for prefab design, and now Urban Space Management has brought shipping containers to multi-unit, larger-scale housing with the introduction of its component-based, flexible, and widely applicable container construction system.

We have a closed factory close by which was just reopened to convert 40 foot containers into modular housing units. From what I can see, this factory, a former welding facility, with extensive plasma cutting pools and many overhead cranes, is dropping the containers into the cutting pool and cutting the door, window and utility openings with computer controlled torches. The containers are then shipped by rail for finishing.
I agree it is cool and likely very cost effective.
