Generally, I'm the kind of guy who thinks that anyone should be able to do pretty much what they want with their money, regardless of whether anyone else thinks it's stupid or wasteful or silly.
But I think there's something a little sick with having a personal staff of 600 people, just to take care of him and 5 other family members.

Whoops, you forgot all the guest, the concubines, the advisory staff, the tutors, etc. This guy lives like a King, in fact better. In the end, he is very good for the economy as his servants are likely paid enough to have personal servants of their own.(I hate to say "trickle down", but there it is.)
All of this while India is so poor, some others complain. What should the man do, give all his money away? No way, if you were him, you would be just as greedy because you would understand that your wealth is fleeting and circumstances could appear that would wipe your fortune and fame away in the blink of an eye. I am happy for him and I hope he has all the happiness that comes with wealth.

How can anyone enjoy such wealth, especially in such an extravagant, flaunting and ostentatious display, when so many of their countrymen live on their doorstep in extreme dire poverty?
Siddhartha Gautama was also an Indian. He was also extremely wealthy but couldn't enjoy his wealth knowing that people were poor, diseased and dying.
He gave it up and went on to become the Buddha. I guess this guy won't be doing that anytime soon.

Freedom is a wonderful thing, and this man is exercising his, to the limit, it would seem.
But 300 million of his countrymen (the largest concentration of poor people on the planet)are languishing below the poverty line -- and are, as a result, unable to afford even the basic necessities of life.
Mr. Ambani is clearly well-insulated against concerns such as this.

Well, I thought about that. Surely the 600 people who will end up toadying for him will be grateful to have work, most likely they will come from the ranks of the unemployed.
But at that scale, you have to ask if those people are really GAINFULLY employed. I mean, what are they really producing besides comfort for one excessively pampered family?
Look at it this way...if the US economy could function perfectly well with 40% employment and one ultra-trillionaire could afford to hire the other 60% of the work force to wash his yachts and wipe his babies' butts, would it be a good thing if he did so? If someone had that big an impact on society as a whole and controlled the destinies of so many people, wouldn't it be fair to say that the world would be a better place if he found some more productive way for all those people to serve him?

Does he pay hefty taxes? Probably not. I doubt they have much in gov. programs in India.
The Taj Mahal: World's most beautiful building.
Ambani's tower: World's ugliest building.

This certainly doesn't coincide with Hindu values of moderation and detachment from all earthly things. This fellow will certainly not be attaining moksha anytime soon!

He's basically building a hotel for him, his family, and 600 servants.
I wonder if the living conditions for the workers will be just as nice or better than any 4-5 star hotel here in the States.
And I truly hope that the artist who drew up that rendition was fired and replaced by a decent architect.
