I think that they are selling property that was previously stolen from their family and now recovered through legal means. So they are not selling stolen paintings. That being said, I am sure that the previous owners who had to give back the stolen paintings are out a lot of money.
What little I know about American law seems to state that if someone sells you stolen property, and the seller thinks that the property is legit when they sell it, then you would have more rights to the property than the origional owner. Is that not true?

The paintings are being sold by the rightful owners. It never hurts to read the article before commenting.

As soon as we get all property displaced by WWII returned to the rightful owners we need to start on that 40 acres and a mule for everyone distantly related to someone who might have been a slave somewhere at some time in the past including reimbursement to the Roman Catholic Church Nunery for those nuns taken as slaves by Norsemen in the mid-centuries. Plus, I'd like to have my mint condition 1948 Harley-Davidson back. My Great-Uncle bought that new.
