    I found this article informative for the non-chemical layman.

    I have always been fascinated by how the element table was formed and added to by smart people over many thousands of years.

    How did they know how many neutrons, positrons, and electrons that make up the atoms for an element before the invention of the modern electron microscope that made it possible to see arrays of atoms?
